Current Status

What I currently have is:

  • java/lang/Object to System.Object & java/lang/String to System.String mapping
  • On demand class loading infrastructure (but no ClassLoader support)
  • Code to read and parse Java .class files
  • Compiler that parses (small subset) of Java bytecode and converts it into MSIL
  • Small subset of JNI support (calling native methods & calling Java from native code)

What is needed

  • Exception object model mapping needs to be worked out
  • Bytecode parser needs much improvement
  • Classpath native code needs to be written
  • Classpath VM interface needs to be investigated and adapted where necessary
  • ClassLoader support
  • Flesh out JNI support
  • Testing, testing and more testing
  • Documentation

Hi Jeroen
This is sachin from India, I am mainly visual programmer. But also interested in Java and low level languages. I know Flash, Director with scripting, Java, some c++, smalltalk etc
I know Assembly also. I dont hve much experience in assembly but I can makeout.
I am currently reviewing 'java:how to program' book from prentise Hall.


I am also interested in your javavm4.net project. Its good. Tell me where and how i can contribute.

Sachin, save your money. If you already know Java, that book isn't going to tell you anything you don't already know (or for that matter, anything you can't already find on the sun website). I've got the 3rd edition, and it wasn't worth my time or money (although the bundled JBuilder 3 academic was nice... especially if you know to update the src.jar to the current SDK version for up to date tooltips). Then again, I prefer online docs to anything printed, so I guess I'm a bit biased. ;)

Anti-Spam Question: What method on java.lang.System returns an object's original hashcode (i.e. the one that would be returned by java.lang.Object.hashCode() if it wasn't overridden)? (case is significant)
